Life Passes Like a Moment: Guidance, Trial, and Patience
Think back to the very first memory you have of your life—perhaps when you were five years old. Now, return to the present. How many years have passed? Some of you will say 20, some 50…
If you say, 'I've heard this story before,' pause for a moment. How can these stories persist in many sacred texts, even if they have been corrupted over time? Moreover, when making decisions, don't you sometimes feel as if two voices are conversing in your mind? Or when you contemplate doing something wrong, don't you sense that one part of you is uncomfortable with it?
Let's assume for a moment that you don't believe in a Creator. But let's make a hypothesis: If everything is indeed just a result of coincidence, as some like-minded individuals suggest, what could be my loss as a believer? I strive to lead a good and moral life, and I find joy in seeing others happy. However, what if the words spoken by prophets are true, and there really is a Creator?
Throughout centuries, there have been certain sacred texts that have reached humanity at intervals. Some of these texts may have undergone changes over time due to human intervention, but there is still a solid scripture that preserves its original form. I believe it speaks the truth. So, what if the content of this scripture is indeed accurate?
In the Quran, there is a section that addresses why the great Creator of the universe created humans. The angels ask Allah why He would create a being that would cause corruption and shed blood when they already glorify and worship Him. Allah responds, 'I know what you do not know.' The angels had witnessed and worshiped Allah, and their nature was fundamentally different from humans. They did not possess bodily desires known as 'nafs,' which makes everything different for humans.
When Allah created Prophet Adam, He fashioned his body from clay. In the face of this magnificent creation, Allah commands all angels to prostrate to Adam. However, Satan, being a jinn and not like the angels, refused to prostrate, claiming that he was created from fire, while Adam was created from clay. Satan's act of refusal was rooted in arrogance, and arrogance is one of the gravest sins in Allah's sight. Consequently, Allah banished him from His presence. Satan asked for respite until the Day of Judgment to lead humanity astray, and Allah granted his request. Since then, Satan has been a malevolent force, using human desires and whispers to obstruct their worship and lead them astray.
When Prophet Adam descended to the Earth, he had children, and one of them killed the other because he wanted to marry the same person that his brother was supposed to marry. That's how the first murder story came to be. Since that day, those who succumbed to Satan's influence have been shedding blood, causing harm, and spreading corruption. The righteous and the wicked have been separated, and individuals make their choices using their free will.
Your life has passed by so swiftly, hasn't it? And the rest of your life will pass as well. What comes after? Continue to ponder.
Consider what a human needs to survive. When a person is hungry, their first thought is to satisfy their hunger. Once they've eaten, they may want to store food for future days. After securing enough food, other desires arise within their bodies due to hormonal influences. This may lead them to seek companionship, influence in society, or even aspirations of becoming a leader or ruler. Subsequently, they may believe they are superior to others in their community, harbor racist sentiments, and evaluate people based on their race, losing all sense of moral values.
Now, you might be wondering, 'What role does Satan play in all of this?' When you've eaten your fill, it may be Satan who whispers in your ear, telling you that you need to accumulate more, or you'll go hungry. If you have a job and desire more, he might be the one placing these thoughts in your mind. Thoughts like, 'Become a king, let everyone serve you, let everyone's money be yours, let their labor be yours, let your word be law,' could be his influence. Then, he takes things to such an extreme that it almost leads to a claim of divinity. Aren't there historical examples of this?
In conclusion, Satan has succeeded in drawing many individuals to his side. If people had lived by the principles of good morality, love, and respect, they would have been appreciated by the Lord, praised by the angels, and entered paradise upon their passing. The battle of pride continues, and some individuals are under the sway of Satan, using others to exploit their wealth, showing no respect, and coveting their earnings. They sell weapons, causing death through manipulation or direct actions, and engage in atrocities for the sake of commerce. What's even worse is what we do to the people of those third-world countries we look down upon. We steal their wealth and then demean them based on their race.
There used to be small businesses, grocery stores, street shoeshiners, street candy sellers, cobblers, bakeries, and mechanics. Everyone worked in their own shops according to their professions. Now, large supermarkets, big companies, and bosses have nearly wiped out these small places. Consequently, these people struggle to find employment here because these big companies prefer to use cheaper robots instead of humans.
Here in this world, it is a test for people; are you good or bad? Everyone will get what they deserve. There is no injustice there; even the smallest act of goodness will be rewarded.
Ah, if you read the Quran, you will discover deeper meanings without prejudice. This book contains powerful words that touch the human soul. It holds crucial information about who we are, what we will become, and the purpose of life. Moreover, the Quran is the word of Allah Himself!
Yes, Satan has gathered his supporters, in fact, he has deceived them. But where is justice? What about the innocent children who die, those who suffer, the hungry, and those who witness injustice? Their quest for justice never ends. Heaven and hell exist precisely for that purpose!
Have you made your choice?
Think back to the very first memory you have of your life—perhaps when you were five years old. Now, return to the present. How many years have passed? Some of you will say 20, some 50…
One day, a person who had never seen the Prophet (ﷺ) entered a gathering and started looking for him. His eyes searched the room, but unable to immediately recognize him among the people, he curiously asked:
"He is not one of us who sleeps full while his neighbor is hungry."
